The Langhe: guided winery tour and wine tasting
In the heart of Piedmont, between the areas of Cuneo and Asti, lies the hilly territory known as Langhe. Its name comes from the Piedmontese word “langa,” which means “hill.” Today, the vineyard landscapes of the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. This land, characterized by endless rolling hills, historic villages, farmhouses, and wineries, boasts a rich history deeply intertwined with vine cultivation and wine production.
The winegrowing culture of Piedmont has shaped the region’s identity, making it a place where outstanding food and wine excellence comes to life.
Viticulture in this area dates back to Roman times and during the Middle Ages monasteries played a key role in preserving cultivation and winemaking techniques. However, in the 19th century, with the introduction of Napoleonic laws, oenologists from beyond the Alps were brought in to improve vineyard management, further refining local viticulture. It is no coincidence that this region is a birthplace of renowned wines such as Nebbiolo, Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Arneis, Moscato and Roero.
For example, in the beautiful and historic village of La Morra, time seems to stand still. Located right in the heart of the Langhe and perched atop the hill, this small village is made up of narrow lanes and historic artisan shops. At the foot of the village lies a historic winery where you will enjoy a guided cellar visit and a tasting experience featuring the prestigious Nebbiolo and Barolo wines. This family-run winery traces its’ tradition back to 1847 and continues today, handing down passion and ancient winemaking techniques from generation to generation.
Admire the breathtaking Langhe landscape and enjoy this 1 hour and 30 minute experience, which includes a guided winery tour followed by a tasting of local wines, including one fine Barolo. The aromas of wooden barrels, fermenting wine and the surrounding soil create a unique and evocative atmosphere. You will listen to the story of the family and the winery and discover what makes these products truly unique. This visit allows you time to appreciate the deep connection between the wine, the land where it’s born and the people who dedicate their passion and daily commitment to producing outstanding wines.
During this journey, you will learn about the unique tradition of high-quality wine production, from the grape harvest in the surrounding vineyards to the final tasting of these remarkable excellences. At the end of the visit, you will enjoy a tasting of four fine wines, including one Barolo, paired with traditional Piedmontese breadsticks, while an expert will explain in detail the distinctive characteristics of these Italian treasures.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to discover the Langhe region and its prestigious wines in an exceptional setting.
